With the increasing popularity of e-bikes, new designs with new abilities are popping up all over the world. Now a startup Avial Bikes has come up with the new and very interesting design.
We have seen most of the bikes are made from welded tubes, but the Avial frame is built like an airplane, with rectangular aluminum profiles riveted together, which not only expands the possibilities of design but also, without welding, makes production more environmentally friendly.
The startup has presented two working prototypes of electric bicycles made on the basis of their patent-pending frame. One of these prototypes is equipped with a mid-drive system and the second with the rear-wheel motor with 250 or 350W.
The compact frame used in the prototypes weighs about 3.5 kg (7.72 pounds) and is designed for loads up to 140 kg (308 lbs) and multi-purpose operations. Also, the Bikes can be equipped with any mid-drive or rear-motor of 250 / 350W with a max torque of 100Nm.
The assembled electric bike weights within 22-23kg along with drives and batteries. The company is also conducting experiments to create its own battery with a capacity of 10.5-14Ah, based on 3500mAh cells, which will be lighter and more compact than a standard battery from Southeast Asia by 20-25%.
A mid-drive system with a power of 350W provides speeds of up to 45 km/h (28 mph) and is suitable for the trip of up to 60 km on a single charge. For operation in the European market, the version of the mid-drive system 250W (25 km/h / 15 mph) with a torque of 80Nm is designed.
The smoothness of the gear shift while driving is ensured by the Gearsensor mounted in the transmission. Moreover, the on-board computer supports five power levels of the electric drive, which allows the owner to adjust easily and quickly all the main driving parameters for different road conditions.
The Avial bikes team is planning to get pre-production models in the style of the legendary Defender SUV of the latest generation. The team says, each of the prototypes with a mileage of more than 1000km successfully passed all possible load and road tests – from driving along city streets and country back roads to overcoming rocky sections in the mountain, driving along sandy beaches and mud road.
During the tests, the first prototype of Avial e-bike with rear hub-motor has successfully overcome more than 700 km. The second prototype of the mid-drive electric bike traveled over 800 km in a variety of conditions
In addition to the excellent maneuverability in the conditions of the ride in city traffic, these e-bikes are reliable SUVs for country walks.
The bike is ergonomically designed with users comfort in mind, which is especially important when operating in an urban environment. The company expects the bike to sell from 1,400-1,800 Euros (US$1,588-2,042).
